What is an Accountable Care Organization?

Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) are group of health care providers, who come together voluntarily to give coordinated high quality care to people with Medicare fee-for-service. The goal of coordinated care is to ensure that patients, especially the chronically ill, get the right care at the right time, while avoiding unnecessary duplication of services and preventing medical errors.

"Accountable Care Organizations will improve coordination and communication among physicians and other providers which will help improve care and lower costs for Medicare beneficiaries," said Marilyn B. Tavenner, acting administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. We are excited to welcome West Florida ACO as a partner with Medicare and look forward to working with them to improve care for Medicare beneficiaries in South Florida.
